10th PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2024

The PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2024 took place on March 27th, 2024 in Stein at the Syngenta research facilities.

Oral presentations by the current seven PSC-Syngenta fellows on the progress of their projects  were supplement by the following talks from PSC Members and Syngenta Fellows:

During the lunch break the participants had the opportunity to join guided tours through the Syngenta research facilities.

Moreover, the PSC art and science exhibition "Moments of Discovery" has been displayed during the day. More information about this exhibition.

7th PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2020

The 2020 symposium was held online (Zoom) on 4 November 2020, 13:00 - 16:00h.

The symposium has been opened by the president of the PSC Prof. Bruno Studer, Molecular Plant Breeding, ETH Zurich.
The Symposium finished with final remarks by Willy Rueegg, Syngenta.

6th PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2019

The symposium was held on 6 March 2019 at the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein.

Oral presentations by the current Syngenta fellows have been supplemented by three keynote talks from Prof. Bruce McDonald (ETH Zurich). Prof. Samuel Zeeman (ETH Zurich) and Prof. Cyril Zipfel (University of Zurich), who also chaired the sessions together with Dr. Gabriel Scalliet, team leader fungicide MOR at Syngenta. The symposium has been opened by a talk from Xavier LePrince, Head of Business Sustainability Europe Africa Middle East (EAME). During two guided tours, the group had the opportunity of getting to know the seed care institute and the new green house facilities with Claudio Screpanti and Anke Buchholz (both Syngenta) as guides.
The Symposium finished with 4-min-flashtalks.

5th PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2017

The symposium was held on 30 August 2017 at the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein. One core topic was Modeling in Agriculture.

4th PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2015

A group of 30 PhD students, Post docs and PIs visited the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein on August 27th. The one-day symposium focused on an exchange of latest research innovation benefiting from beneficial microbes. During a guided tour the group had the opportunity of getting to know the seed care institute and the new green house facilities. In the afternoon Christina Uhl presented an overview of career opportunities at Syngenta. The company offers two entry points to PhD students: as a team leader or as a scientific expert. Christina emphasized that not only scientific skills but also a soft skill package that includes experiences in different cultures are important for a successful recruitment. Thus it becomes more and more important to incorporate such a diversity in your portfolio. For example through internships, exchange programs or short term visits abroad. 3rd PSC-Syngenta Symposium

The third PSC-Syngenta Symposium took place at the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein on 26 September 2013. PSC-Syngenta fellows presented their PhD and postdoctoral work. A horizon-scanning discussion on emerging technologies followed, with a focus on the risks and opportunities of each approach. The exchange was animated and informative, highlighting future research needs.

2nd PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2011

On 26 August 2011, the second PSC-Syngenta Symposium took place at the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein. Syngenta invited research fellows to present their projects. With around 50 participants, the symposium was a big success. The program consisted of presentations by Syngenta-funded fellows on their research projects and of presentations by the Syngenta-invited experts on the topic of policies for sustainable agriculture and on development of a dynamic policy for EU agriculture. It was an interesting and dynamic day filled with lively discussions. Syngenta expressed its ambition to continue and intensify collaboration with the PSC.

1st PSC-Syngenta Symposium 2010

On 7 July 2010, Syngenta invited all research fellows and their advisors to the Syngenta Crop Protection Research Center in Stein Säckingen (AG). With more than 40 participants the symposium was a big success. The day consisted of lively discussions and interesting excursions. Syngenta expressed its ambition to enhance the level of interaction with the PSC and the visibility of the collaboration within both organizations.
