As director education of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center and senior education specialist, Melanie has many years of experience in strategic fundraising for large-scale education and research programs, in establishing processes for research management and large international collaboration, as well as guiding the complex financial management, program monitoring and assessments. As course director and founder of several of the PSC main educational programs she has developed many structured PhD Program curricula and curricular contents, for example for the PhD Program in Science and Policy and the PhD Program in Plant Sciences, the Plant Fellows career development program and the Feminno innovation program.
She also guided extra-curricular programs for the public with Plant Science Expeditions, Continuing Education Program in Plant Sciences for Secondary School Teachers.
Expertise in the science-policy and science-public dialogue since 2012. Here she is organizer, facilitator or community educator in +30 public events, public engagement activities or workshops dedicated to communities. She co-author and editor of several science-policy handbooks.
She is lecturer of the University of Zurich and the ETH Zurich since 2000 with priority in ethics, system thinking, science and policy and sustainable educations with +30 courses. Examples include: Responsible Conduct in Research, Sustainable Plant Systems, Risk and Uncertainty Communication. Scientific organizer of 5 transdisciplinary summer schools: Responsible Research an Innovation in Plant Sciences, Understanding Risk and Resilience in Plant Systems, Transformation in Agriculture 1 & 2, Tackling Wicked Problems. Transferable skill courses; Scientific Writing, Dealing with the Publication Process, Writing a Post-doctoral Grant.
