The fifth call for applications for feminno program closed July 30st.

This program addresses female researchers from Life Sciences currently working as a PhD student, Postdoc at the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich or another Swiss University.

Experienced career advisers, coaches, innovation experts and executives from successful life-science enterprises share their work experience and will inspire the participants to pro-actively mature their ideas and with their personal development. feminno is coordinated by the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center and supported Life Science Zurich and further partners.

This graduate course is offered by the University of Basel and the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) for advanced biology students with basic plant science training. Course topics include microclimatology, ecophysiology, biodiversity, reproductive biology, vegetation, ecosystem ecology and remote sensing.

The course will include lectures, field excursions and project work. Participation is limited to 24 students. Full board costs are CHF 400 (exclusive travel expenses).

Call for PhD applications within the RESPONSE Doctoral Programme «Response to society and policy needs through plant, food and energy sciences» (Call 4).

Application deadline is: 1 July 2021 (23:00h).
 
This Doctoral Programme (DP) offers 6 early-stage researcher’s (ESR) positions for 36 months (100%) at the interface of science and policy, as well as science and innovation at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich. Among them are 3 projects that focus on plant sciences.
 
RESPONSE DP will train PhD students to reflect on their role as scientists in society. They will contribute evidence to policy-making and build capacities to address global challenges in the areas of sustainable food systems, sustainable energy systems and sustainable land use decisions.

PhD fellows will spend a mandatory secondment (= internship) of 3 to 12 months at selected partner organizations as part of their PhD training. The specific time and duration of the secondment is indicated in the individual position announcement.

09:15–17:00h, Fachtagung Dialog Grün 2021, online

Agrobiodiversität ist ein wichtiger Bestandteil einer nachhaltigen Land- und Ernährungswirtschaft. Jüngste technologische Fortschritte ermöglichen nicht nur die genaue genetische Beschreibung und gezielte Nutzung pflanzengenetischer Ressourcen, sondern vereinfachen auch die De-novo-Domestizierung von Wildpflanzen.

Expertinnen und Experten aus der Pflanzenforschung und Praxis präsentieren Beispiele und Anwendungsmöglichkeiten. Gemeinsam diskutieren wir die Relevanz von Genomforschung und technologischem Fortschritt in der Pflanzenzüchtung für eine nachhaltige Pflanzenproduktion und den Erhalt der Agrobiodiversität. Das Ziel der Tagung ist es, bestehende Initiativen sichtbar zu machen und Synergien zu finden. Die Tagung richtet sich an Fachpersonen aus Forschung, Beratung, Lehre, Verbänden, Verwaltungseinheiten sowie an Medienschaffende.

Wir laden dich ein, im Dialog mit Quartierbewohner*innen Methoden zu entwickeln. Jeder Haushalt in Zürich kann seine Essgewohnheiten verändern, um ein nachhaltiges Ernährungssystem zu unterstützen. Auch Andere haben es geschafft: Nachhaltigkeit beim Essen langfristig in ihr Leben aufzunehmen. Wir bringen Wissen, praktische Beispiele und ganzheitliche Ansätze mit. Aus all diesen Inspirationen finden wir gemeinsame Wege für feste Gewohnheiten im Alltag, die bleiben.

Zürich isst nachhaltig offeriert 3 öffentliche Workshops um unsere Ideen und Absichten in unseren Haushalten in die Tat umzusetzen.

Eine Aktivität für die ganze Familie: Beobachten, Gestalten und Bauen in der Natur. Mit Hilfe von wissenschaftlichen und künstlerischen Methoden werden wir eure Sinne wecken und schauen, was wir dabei alles Neues entdecken und gestalten können. Ihr könnt nach dem Erkunden des Ortes mit Dachlatten bauen und eigene Formen in den Raum setzen.

Die Guggach-Brache ist ein Areal voller Leben, interessanten Projekten, Tieren und Pflanzen. Lass uns gemeinsam eintauchen, den Ort kennenlernen und selber mitgestalten!

The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center is about to enrich the curriculum of its PhD Program in Plant Sciences to strengthen skills and knowledge in the fields of machine learning, artificial intelligence and big data in plant sciences. We are looking for a Education Specialist to take on this task and to organise a summer school in this area. For details see full job advert.
