Data Privacy Policy - Newsletter of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center
All members of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) receive an electronic newsletter twice a year containing information about the research groups and activities of the PSC. The PSC has a membership of 50 professors (link). All members of these research groups are also members of the PSC.
- Responsibility: The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center is responsible for the processing of personal data in connection with the newsletter: info-plantscience@ethz.ch
- Purpose and Legal Basis of Processing: The newsletter serves to inform members about activities, events, and developments of the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center. The processing of personal data is carried out within the framework of the membership relationship and for the purpose of providing internal information to members. It is governed by the provisions of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP), in particular the principle of purpose limitation pursuant to Art. 6 revFADP.
- Email Service Provider: For the electronic distribution of the newsletter, the PSC uses the service Brevo (Sendinblue GmbH, Köpenicker Str. 126, 10179 Berlin, Germany). Brevo processes personal data as a data processor within the meaning of Art. 9 revFADP exclusively on behalf of and in accordance with the instructions of the PSC. Processing takes place within the European Union (Germany). From the Swiss perspective, the European Union ensures an adequate level of data protection. https://www.brevo.com/de/legal/privacypolicy - Data Processed: For the distribution of the newsletter, the following data are generally processed: Name and Email address. No data will be disclosed to third parties unless required by law or necessary for technical processing.
- Data Retention: The data are stored for the duration of the membership. After termination of membership, the data will be deleted unless statutory retention obligations apply.
- Tracking and Analytics: The newsletter may contain technical information that enables us to determine whether and when a newsletter was opened or which links were clicked. This evaluation is carried out exclusively for statistical analysis and to improve our communication. No individual profiling or personal analysis of user behavior takes place.

The Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center processes your personal information in accordance with applicable data protection legislation (GDPR). We protect your privacy and want you to feel safe – therefore we have established this policy, which clarifies how we work to ensure your rights and privacy.
What types of personal data are being processed
PSC processes personal information and contact information of a non-sensitive nature, such as email address, name, and in some cases professional role, company address and company telephone number.
How personal data is processed
All personal data is processed safely in closed CRM systems and similar programs that only authorized staff within the Zurich-Basel Plant Science Center (PSC) has access to.
Disclosure of Personal Data
Personal data will be disclosed to third parties (e.g. other authorities) only if required by binding legal provisions (e.g. the ruling of an authority, court orders) or for the purposes of legal or criminal prosecution (e.g. in the event of attacks on the PSC network infrastructure). Personal data will not be disclosed to third parties for other purposes.
How long do we save your data?
We process and save your information until you withdraw your consent, until your signed agreement expires and until your legitimate interest no longer applies.
Your rights
You are entitled, upon request, to examine your personal data that is processed and request that the processing of your personal information be terminated or changed.
